About Shoshita
I built Shoshita because I was bad at tracking my finances, and every option on the market made the problem worse.
Most personal finance apps wanted me to hand my bank credentials to a third-party aggregator like Plaid, sync everything to their servers, and pay a monthly subscription for the privilege. The ones that didn’t charge a subscription wanted the same data in exchange for ads, or buried a line in the privacy policy about selling “anonymized” insights. None of that sat right with me, especially for an app meant to hold years of my financial history.
So I built the tool I actually wanted: one that stays on my machine and works with the CSV exports almost every Canadian bank already provides. I use it every day for my own finances, so it’s not going anywhere.
About me
I’m Bruno, currently based in Vancouver, BC. I built Shoshita for Canadians. Our banks format their CSV exports a particular way, chequings and credit accounts work, the surplus/deficit math that matches how most of us actually think about a budget.
As a VFX Editor during my 9-5 job, most of my time at work goes into figuring out how to enhance workflows and pipelines, taking a manual, error-prone process and rebuilding it as something repeatable and quiet. Shoshita is that same instinct, pointed at my own life. Take a process that’s frustrating, slow, and full of third parties; rebuild it locally so it’s fast, private, and yours.
About the name
Shoshita is my fiancée’s nickname. She’s always been the disciplined one with her money. The spreadsheet was open, the categories were tidy, the surplus was known. Watching her made it obvious how much calmer life feels when your numbers aren’t a mystery. Naming the app after her is part thank-you, part daily reminder of the bar I’m trying to clear.
That’s the whole pitch. No tracking, no subscription, no cloud. Just an app and your files.
